The Immortal Romance slot is brought to you from slot powerhouse, Microgaming. It is a vampire themed 5 reel slot with 243 ways to win, and stakes ranging from 30p – £6.00. Some casinos do offer a significantly higher maximum stakes, and the most I have seen is an eye watering £60 maximum. Immortal Romance boasts the Chamber of Spins which offers a choice of free spin options based on the game’s characters. The game also features the heart stopping Wild Desire bonus which has potential to turn the whole screen wild. So, does the game live up to the hype? Immortal Romance Slot Stakes & Stats
The Immortal Romance online slot consists of 5 reels offering the potential of 243 ways to win. All wins are paid from left to right and you need at least 3 matching symbols on the first 3 reels.
You can play from as little as 30p, with a maximum stake usually set at £6. However, I have seen some casinos offer a £60 maximum. If you’re playing outside the UK, you can take advantage of the auto play system, and you can also use the quick spin function.
Whilst thoroughly entertaining, it should be mentioned that the Immortal Romance slot is high variance and wins can be very volatile. You can expect to win small amounts more frequently, but the big wins really are chunky when you hit them. The maximum you can win is up to 12,000 x your stake which makes for sizeable potential.
The Immortal Romance Slot
The Immortal Romance slot is now in its 11th year and has a vampire theme heavily influenced by the Twilight saga. Whilst interest in this genre may have waned a bit since then, Immortal Romance has stood the test of time. The graphics hold their own, but for me, it’s the soundtrack that steals the show. Subtle background music sets the atmosphere and some of the incidental sounds really are quiet chilling.
The immortal Romance slot is based on 4 characters each with their own back story and value. Amber is the lowest paying main character, followed by Troy, Michael and finally Sarah who sports the red dress. The most powerful symbol is the Immortal Romance wild, which will also double your win and can pay 50 x your stake. It also substitutes for all symbols except scatters.
Bonus Features
The Immortal Romance slot has two main bonus features. The first is The Chamber of Spins which can actually be broken into 4 different versions depending on which character you play with. Then we have the Wild Desire bonus which activates at random and is my favourite. More on that later though…
The Chamber of Spins Feature
The main feature of the Immortal Romance slot, is The Chamber of Spins and this is activated with 3 or more door knocker scatter symbols. When they appear, you’ll hear an ominous knocking sound and you will then be presented with free spin options based on the game’s characters. There are 4 to choose from and each has a cool soundtrack. To take advantage of the full selection, you will need to enter The Chamber of Spins on multiple occasions.
Characters
The ‘Amber’ free spins are always available. Here, all wins are X 5, and you get 10 free spins with a possible re-trigger if 3 or more scatters land.
The ‘Troy’ free spins award a Vampire Bat feature played over 15 spins. Here, bats will appear over the symbols with either 2 X, or 3 X to multiply your win. If you’re lucky enough to get bats on more than one reel, the game will award a 6 X multiplier.
The ‘Michael’ Rolling Reels free spins will award 20 spins and with each win, the symbols cascade to increase the multiplier to a 5 X maximum.
Finally, the ‘Sarah’ free spins award 25 spins and the Wild Vine feature. Here, the wild vine symbol can appear on reel 3. It’s wild, and can shoot out to other reels to turn them wild too. There is also a chance of a re-trigger of between 2 and 5 extra spins depending on how many scatter symbols land.
The Amber free spins are always available, but to activate the other characters, you will need to enter The Chamber of Spins 5 times for Troy, 10 for Michael, and 15 times for Sarah.
The Wild Desire Feature
The Wild Desire feature can activate at any time you press the spin button. Here, you will notice that the reels spin longer than usual, before ‘Wild Desire’ appears at the top in red. A suspenseful backing sound is played as you wait to see which reels will be filled with a giant wild symbol. The suspense builds as the reels continue to spin, and you can never really be sure if another reel will turn completely wild. The heart stopping suspense is something the Immortal Romance slot has completely nailed. You can score some sizable wins with this feature and if all 5 reels turn wild, you hit the jackpot!

Theme
Immortal Romance has attained cult status with the online slot community and despite its age, remains one of the most played casino slots of all time. The slot is part of the Microgaming family, and if you rewind to 2011 when it was released, it’s easy to see why they went with a vampire theme. Think along the lines of Twilight, and True Blood, and it’s obvious they have attempted to capitalise on the interest in the genre.
The theme has four main characters, and you can read their back stories in the instructions settings of the slot. It’s set inside a large house, and you can see this in the symbols and backdrop to the game. The overall mood is dark and full of intrigue. Although the slot makes use of the playing card type symbols to make up the lower paying amounts, I found this didn’t detract from the overall theme as is the case with many online slots. It is starting to look a little bit dated, but you can easily forgive this through the overall look and feel of the slot.
Immortal Romance isn’t visually stunning as such, but it is impeccably drawn to fit the genre, and the graphics still hold their own against more recent releases. For those reasons, it’s a great score for the theme.
Soundtrack
The soundtrack to any slot can easily make or break it. I have started to play many slots in the past only to switch them off because of annoying or unnecessary music. With the Immortal Romance slot, it’s completely different. The backing music is subtle, compliments the theme perfectly, and maintains the mysterious feel to the game. It lures you into the gameplay, and seduces you enough to stay.
The game is accompanied by some great incidental win noises, and a brilliant deep, hollow door knock sound when the scatters land. This adds a further layer to the mystery, and certainly gives the game an ominous feel. Dim the lights, turn the sound up, and you’ll see what I mean. However, Microgaming went a step further for Immortal Romance and commissioned their own rock type tracks for the bonus rounds. Yes, you might think they’re a little cheesy, but you’ll certainly agree that they are in keeping with the game. Lastly, you’ll find a very satisfying big win count-up accompanied by the sound of a clock striking the hour.
Overall, Immortal Romance has an excellent soundtrack which is reflected in the score for that element.
Gameplay
Immortal Romance is high volatility which means that you’re more likely to get big wins through one of the bonus features. I have spent hours playing this game over the years and found that it can either swing one way or the other in terms of frequency for the bonuses. I’ve had sessions when I’ve landed the 3 scatters several times in quick succession, but equally it’s entirely possible to hit a dry spell. The bonuses do tend to be quite decent on most occasions though.
The speed of the game is quick enough so as not to frustrate, but it’s not so quick that it undermines the overall theme. If you’re outside the UK, you can make use of the quick spin feature but I would suggest the Immortal Romance slot is the type of game you should just play at the normal speed. All in all, it’s another great score for the gameplay element.
Entertainment Value
I’ve already mentioned that I’ve played Immortal Romance a lot, and there’s a good reason for that: It’s just great! The theme and soundtrack are fantastic, and despite its volatility, the gameplay is good enough to keep you interested. Immortal Romance will draw you in and keep you there, which is not something that can be said for other slots. It would therefore rate this slot as highly entertaining, and even if you don’t manage to come away having won, you’ll certainly feel you’ve had your money’s worth.
Conclusion
There are clear comparisons with the Immortal Romance slot, to Microgaming’s other big hit –Thunderstruck 2. Basically, it’s the same game with the same features that have been named differently. However, there are distinct differences in what each slot will pay. For example, you’re more likely to get a bigger win with the Wild Desire bonus in Immortal Romance, and more likely to get a re-trigger in the free spins Of Thunderstruck 2. However whilst both are immensely entertaining to play, I feel Immortal Romance definitely has the edge when drawing you into the feel and gameplay of the slot.
If there was any negative to be had here, it would be that the volatility makes it a bit hit an miss sometimes. I would therefore recommend setting a decent amount aside to play with, and if you’re just not feeling it, leaving it and coming back a few hours later. All of the elements we looked at have scored extremely highly, meaning it’s big thumbs up for the game in our Immortal Romance slot review!
