Mega Moolah Slot Stakes & Stats
The Mega Moolah progressive slot features 5 reels with 25 pay lines. The wins are paid from left to right, and a win is formed by matching as few as 2 symbols on a pay line. The game has an RTP of 93.42%, which is on the low side, but it is also low volatility meaning wins are frequent.
You can play Mega Moolah for as little as 25p per spin, and the maximum stake regardless of where you play is £6.25. Since it’s launch in 2006, the slot has paid out over £1.4 billion!
The game has a free spin feature which is triggered by 3 or more scatters, but the main attraction is the jackpot wheel which is split into 4 categories: Mini, Minor, Major and Mega. The jackpot wheel is triggered randomly at the end of every base game spin, and each time a jackpot is won, the values reset to either £10 for the Mini, £100 for the Minor, £10,000 for the Major and £1 million for the Mega.
This game really is the king of jackpots and the Mega Moolah progressive slot has made more instant millionaires than any other. It biggest payout in the UK was a staggering £13.2 million!
The Mega Moolah Progressive Slot
With an African Safari theme, the Mega Moolah progressive slot gives an adventurous vibe. The game launched in 2006 but has been remastered since then to update the graphics. As it’s based on animated characters of its own rather than film or TV, it really has stood the test of time and is still extremely appealing. The animal characters are well drawn and the animation is slick. The incidental sounds are subtle but add to the overall theme of the game.
Like many other slots, Mega Moolah comprises of standard playing card 10, J, Q, K and A symbols. The premium payers are the animals in the game with the lion being most powerful, acting as wild and doubling any wins. This is followed by the elephant, buffalo, giraffe and kudu. The game also features witch doctor scatters which can land anywhere. You need at least 3 to trigger the free spin bonus.
Bonus Features
The Mega Moolah slot has two bonus features. The first is the free spins which are triggered by at least 3 witch doctor scatters. 15 Spins free spins are awarded with all wins during the round X 3. A re-trigger can also occur with 3 more scatters giving a potential free spin total of 30.
The second bonus is the reason most will play the game. It can be triggered randomly at the end of each spin, and it’s called The Mega Moolah Jackpot Wheel. This is where your heart will race and a potentially life changing sum awaits!
The Mega Moolah Jackpot Wheel
The main feature of the Mega Moolah slot, is the Jackpot Bonus. This is triggered randomly and occurs after any spin regardless of whether it’s a winning one or not. You can play with as little as 25p up to £6.25 on Mega Moolah, but for the best chance of entering the Jackpot Bonus, you will need to be towards the maximum stake.
I have played Mega Moolah on countless occasions over the years and I think I can only recall hitting this bonus with a 25p spin on one occasion. It was a good one though, as I recall winning the Mini jackpot which was £250 at the time! Generally speaking though, I only play Mega Moolah these days when I can afford a decent run of £6.25 spins. I have also found that bonus tends to trigger more in the evening when more people are likely to be playing.
Cross Your Fingers & Spin The Wheel!
When you enter the bonus round, it is a simple spin of the wheel to reveal your prize and I always pray it to land on the yellow or white sections. A few years ago I had a heart stopping moment when the wheel slowed and crept into the white section of the Mega Jackpot. However, it slowly spun into the neighbouring red section as I realised it was just lag on my internet connection! I think I won £12 as opposed to £3 million. Needless to say, I was quite disappointed!
The odds of winning the biggest prizes may be long, and similar to lottery odds, but people do regularly win them. You have to be in it to win it, as they say.

I’ve said before in other reviews that I always have a soft spot for slots that have previously treated me well, but this is one of those that I simply love playing whatever the result.
I have been playing Mega Moolah since the early days, and yes some might say it’s a little dated but the charm of this slot will carry it for many years to come in my opinion. As it has a low volatility, it will always keep you entertained enough to stick around even if the wins are usually on the low side. However, I have had many sessions on this slot when I have come out with quite substantial wins. This is where I think it continues to captivate people and maintain its popularity.
The theme and game characters are original, and the incidental sounds match perfectly. When you enter the Jackpot Bonus and spin the wheel, the witch doctor chants for you which is an nice touch.
This game is kinder to the wallet than many others. If it does have any flaws, then they are more than made up for by its sheer entertainment value. All in all, I love it!
If you prefer non progressive slots, then check out my reviews of Thunderstruck 2, and Immortal Romance. Both are by Microgaming and are also fantastic.
